Need to find out more about what we do?

FAQ

I’m new to archery and want to know more about the sport. Where do I start?

Phoenix Archery Club offers $20 ‘Come N Try sessions’ where experienced coaches provide a fun and safe environment to try archery. Sessions are run on Saturday 10am – 11:30am. For more information and to make a booking, you can visit: Booking Page

We encourage everyone to come along and try archery and have some fun!

I booked a Come ‘n’ Try session for this Saturday but can no longer come. What can I do?

No worries! We understand that things in life can happen and get in the way. Just let us know by replying to the confirmation email and we can reschedule you for another week. We do not provide refund for cancelations and no-shows.

I am currently looking at Archery options for a NDIS participant

Approach the participant’s provider to see if archery is an acceptable activity. Once approval is given, we can generate an invoice for a nominated number of sessions. Once payment is received, we can then organise bookings. Archery Australia, our governing body, rules that the maximum number of these attendances is limited to 12 sessions. After that, the participant is expected to become a club member.

Can I bring my own equipment to the Come ‘n’ Try sessions?

Yes. However, one of our instructors will need to inspect your equipment to see that it is safe to use. If you have a compound bow, the maximum poundage allowed in our facility is 60lb. If we are satisfied that your equipment meets our requirements, we can then offer to waiver the equipment hire $5 from your booking .

Do you cater for birthday parties?

We do not have the facilities for any form of catering. We can allow for groups that want to have archery as an activity during our Come ‘n’ Try sessions.

How can I become a club member?

Attend a minimum of 6 Come'n'Try sessions and be assessed by our Club Coach before membership is offered.

The archer will be required to demonstrate that they can shoot a bow correctly and without supervision. It is also imperative for the archer to demonstrate that they understand the rules and etiquette of the range.

Following assessment, an invite to club membership will include instructions on how to register via an online portal.

I want to book a Come ‘n’ Try session for a large group of people. How can I do that?

Our booking system allows a maximum of 5 participants for each booking. You can enter multiple bookings to cater for larger groups. There is a field at the bottom of your booking where you can let us know that the groups are connected.

Can I shoot at your club during the open times if I am not a club member?

Phoenix Archery Club facility and open times are only available for its club members to shoot in.

Access for the public is strictly conditional to:

- Any participating non-club members during our Come 'n' Try session.

- Members of another AA affiliated archery club. A casual fee of $10 is payable before-hand by contacting us and presenting your membership details.

- Members of another AA affiliated archery club wishing to transfer membership across OR wishing to become an associate shooting member in our club through AA.

I’m trying to make a booking but the website will not allow me to. Why?

The club has capped the numbers for any Come ‘n’ Try session at 20 participants. If we have reached capacity, further bookings for that session will not proceed. Bookings only become available for selection 7 days before the date of any session.

What type of bows do you use?

Predominantly we use Genesis bows. These are extremely adjustable for training purposes. We do have a limited number of Recurve bows for people with a longer draw length but not full compound.

How much does it cost to become club member?

Annual Club fees are:

Senior (18+) $260

Jnr (8-18) $170

What is the minimum age to shoot at your club?

We have a policy that the minimum age to participate is 8 years or above. 8 years old is also the best time to get started into archery!

There are many factors determining this; Archers needs to be able to focus, concentrate and comprehend instructions about shooting and safety on the range. Additionally, the training bows are only adjustable to a limited minimum poundage so archers need to be able to demonstrate that they have the strength to suitable control the bow. We apologise if this is inconvenient, but safety on the range is paramount.

Can I use a Crossbow at your club?

NO. Crossbows are classed as Prohibited Weapons and a permit is required to possess a crossbow legally in Australia and in Victoria.

Are you open every Saturday?

Yes, as much as we can. Any changes to our normal schedule will be communicated on our website and Facebook page.

We are closed over the Christmas/New Year period.

There are also rare occasions when we do not have instructors available for a Come ‘n’ Try session.

For club members, some times during the public holidays, we have reduced open hours.
